When trying to access Banner (not MyBanner or Personal Access Pages), users may experience a "service invocation" error after authentication by Shibboleth and Duo. We are working to identify and recify the issue as quickly as possible. We have not identified a workaround yet but are working to diagnose the issue. When trying to generate reports beginning in MyBanner or trying to submit jobs to the jobsub server, users may experience timeouts and server errors. Planned Maintenance: Network Service Window

    A maintenance window has been planned for September 15, 2024 between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. During this time, campus WiFi and wired networking services may be briefly unavailable as we perform some configuration changes across campus.

    As more types of specialized devices are connected to the campus network, they don't always "play nice" with the rest of the network. These can be personal (non-computer) devices brought from home to residences, but they can also be specialized control systems such as "smart" lighting management systems or building heating and air conditioning control systems. These devices are not very configurable: effectively they can't be taught to "play nice." They talk when they aren't supposed to, and say things they shouldn't.
     
    As such, they intermittently but regularly cause problems across the entire network--sometimes just a blip, but more often several seconds where the network is less responsive because it is trying to reconfigure itself to accommodate the bad-behaving device. This fall, we've seen this increase and it has resulted in suboptimal network performance at times.

    What can we do? There are protocols and configurations that can be set up on the network to manage the bad behavior and prevent it from having a negative impact. We made the first necessary change last Tuesday evening on the core network. On Sunday, we'll make changes to individual building switches across the whole campus.

    We have identified an issue with certain Oracle SQL databases that drive Banner. When trying to log in or act on Banner, users may experience an ORA-02002 error.
